Our Community Lactation Specialist Pathway training is a 24 hour educational course for birthworkers of color who have completed a foundation lactation education course.

Our Community Education and Engagement program is thrilled to announce our IBCLC Exam Scholarship!
This opportunity will grant two BIPOC community members the funds needed to cover the fees for preparing for and enrolling in the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Examination.
Community members serving King County residents are prioritized. All Applicants must reside in Washington State.
Applications are on a rolling basis. All interested applicants must participate in at least three of our program offerings to be eligible for selection.
Potential applicants must participate in at least three Open Arms offerings to familiarize themselves with Open Arms programs and staff. Examples include dropping into a Lactation Lounge, signing up for a Monthly Prenatal Lactation Class, or registering for a Childbirth Education class. Case study reviews and skill-building workshops will also be offered during this period. Registration information will be available on our Event Calendar and social media channels.
Timeline
- July 2024- February 2025: Relationship Building. Potential applicants must participate in at least three Open Arms offerings to familiarize themselves with Open Arms programs and staff. - Feburary 2025: Applications Open. Applications will be announced on our social media, website, and email newsletter.
- May 2025: Selection. Open Arms will announce two scholarship awardees.
- May 2025: Registration for IBCLC Exam.
- May-September 2025: Exam Preparation. Awardees will receive support from our Lactation Support Clinical Lead and Community Education Lead.
- September 2025: Exam.
