Celebrating Connection & Our Communities\nSaturday, August 26, 2023, 12-4pm\nALMA Venue, 1322 Fawcett Ave, Tacoma, WA 98402\n• Latch-on photos\n• Lactation consultations\n• Flange fittings (for pumping)\n• Guest speakers\n• Food truck\n• Resource fair\n• Giveaways for nursing & back to school\nand more!\nFree!\nTogether with the national organizers and our local partners, BLK MAMAS Collective is committed to disrupting anti-Blackness as we celebrate, honor, respect, and protect Black motherhood and breastfeeding, from African ancestral to reclaimed practices of nurturing and thriving for our young and our communities.\nAlong with the founders of Black Breastfeeding Week, we believe there is a need for a targeted and accelerated approach to improving Black breastfeeding outcomes while addressing historic and intergenerational barriers to successful breastfeeding. We recognize that systemic and institutional racism create greater barriers for Black parents committed to meeting breastfeeding guidelines set out by public health officials, and we acknowledge that Black families face unique cultural barriers, misinformation, gaps in support, and lack of representation in the lactation field among other challenges.\nOn August 26 we gather in the spirit of Black joy to celebrate and uplift all Black families and to especially generate awareness and solidarity for breastfeeding/chestfeeding Black mamas.\nWe invite you to join us and share throughout our Seattle, South King County, and Tacoma Pierce County communities.\nWE OUTSIDE!! And we are ready to celebrate with you!\n
