There is a name for this aspect of depression. It is called diurnal. This is when you feel better as the day progresses, and by nightfall, you wonder why you ever felt bad. I too suffer from this aspect of depression, and there is nothing much worse than to open your eyes (if you are lucky enough to sleep) and try to struggle with showers, driving, work, etc. at the same time you are struggling with nausea, anxiety, sadness and tears. It all becomes too much!!!

This is a great reflection, Jennifer. I am so glad that you decided to post it. One of the great things about Open Arms as an organization is that its leaders challenge institutional racism, as well as other kinds of discrimination that can creep in under the dominent culture's radar. I am forever learning, blessed to be part of a group of people that are willing to deconstruct assumptions made about women's identities, families at the low end of the income spectrum, birth, communities, and the ways in which we all are part of the whole.
